Ray Zhao 赵磊
Ray brings a combination of venture capital, strategic investment and investment banking experience to DCM Ventures. He believes that great entrepreneurs are the ones who “live in the future then build what’s missing”, while great VCs are the ones who find those visionary builders and help them succeed. He feels lucky to be seated in the front row witnessing how the future is built.
Prior to DCM Ventures, Ray worked at Tencent Investment, the investment arm of the Internet giant in China, where he worked on a variety of investments into early-stage, growth-stage and public companies, from both strategic and financial perspectives. With the experience at Tencent, Ray understands, in order to survive and thrive, how critical it is for start-ups to build proper relationship with Internet giants. Before joining Tencent, he worked as a venture capital investor at Ventech Capital and an investment banker at Morgan Stanley and China Renaissance.
Ray is a die-hard basketball fan who has been watching NBA games and playing basketball for over 20 years. As much as he would like to improve his tennis and Muay Thai, he found it often hard to resist the temptation to play video games and poker with friends at leisure time. During holidays, he likes to fly to a place, rent a car and take a road trip listening to country music. Ray received his M.B.A. from Wharton School of Business, University of Pennsylvania, and his B.S. from Sichuan University with one exchange year at University of Washington.
